Engine Maintenance (EM) ... is a two module course.
This course covers the theory of inboard, inboard outdrive,
and outboard motors. Both modules must be successfully
completed to earn credit for the course.
EM101, Basic Engine Maintenance, covers marine propulsion systems, basic engine principles, engine components, controls, instruments, alarms, marine engine maintenance, and steering systems. There is also a chapter on winter storage and spring servicing with a 25 step winterizing checklist. EM102, Advanced Engine Maintenance, provides information on cooling and exhaust systems, lubrication, fuel and air induction systems, ignition systems, electrical and starting systems, power trains, and trouble shooting. It concludes with a chapter on emergency repairs afloat. This course has no prerequisites.
